Bike ride to The Rockaways
Saturday, July 25 @ 10:00 am

Casual-speed group bike ride along southern Brooklyn waterfront and around Jamaica Bay to Rockaway Beach.
Hop on the bandwagon — we’re riding bikes to the beach!
It’s our sorta-annual tradition now, to ride along the Shore Parkway Greenway and Jamaica Greenway to the Rockaways. This year’s plot twist — we’re taking an extended ride around Jamaica Bay and crossing the North Channel and Cross Bay Bridges* to the boardwalk at Beach 95th Street.
Bring: a bike lock, water, sunscreen, beach towel, and beach snacks.
Challenge rating: medium
- Overall distance: 23 miles one-way
- Distance on greenway or “good” lanes: 20 miles
- Distance on “bad” bike lanes or no bike lanes at all: 3 miles
- Pace: around 10 miles per hour (faster on greenways, slower on streets)
- Terrain: flat, except for bridges over Jamaica Bay and its inlets
Meet up at: 10am at the pier at 69th Street in Bay Ridge
Want to meet us along the way?
- If you’re joining us from southeast Brooklyn, no need for you to come all the way to Bay Ridge just to backtrack!
- Pick-up locations will be in Bath Beach at the end of Bay Parkway (approximately 10:35am) and in Sheepshead Bay at the start of the Jamaica Bay Greenway (outstide Lew Fidler Park, approximately 11:15am)
