Let’s ride on new bike lanes in Bay Ridge & Dyker Heights!

There are five different bike projects that came together in the span of a few months to remake the map for bike riders in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights.

We’re going to go for a ride and check out three of them!

* The Bay Ridge & Dyker Heights bike network expansion – this was the main result of the January 2019 workshops. OK, it has some warts, and it still isn’t fully complete, but it’s an improvement over the near-nothing that was here before AND also gets us caught up to where some North Brooklyn neighborhoods were 10 years ago. (AND also broke the brains of people who hate bikes and the people that ride them, which is definitely another pro.)

* 86th Street – a separate initiative that provides a new route uphill from Shore Road to 3rd Avenue

* 7th Avenue protected lane – a school safety initiative that provides a safe alternative to the 6th Ave sharrows (at least as far south as Bay Ridge Parkway)

We’ll also take a jaunt over part of the Leif Ericson Greenway – hard to spell, even harder to get the city government to maintain it, mark it, or make curb cuts for it!

We’ll meet at 86th Street and Shore Road and work our way around both neighborhoods. Gather at 11am, roll out at 11:10!
