Summer weeknight bike ride to watch Miss Congeniality at Prospect Park [revised]

Since last week’s outdoor movie got rained out, we’re switching this week’s ride to a different movie

We’re going to ride bikes to Prospect Park’s outdoor movie and watch Miss Congeniality. Bring a picnic-style dinner and snacks. We’ll ride through Bush Terminal Piers Park and along the new greenway segment on Third Avenue from 29th to 21st Street, then take the best way to the 4th Avenue, 9th Street, and Prospect Park West protected bike lanes.

Bring: a bike lock, bike lights (since the return trip will be after sunset), and a picnic dinner/snacks.

Challenge rating: medium-easy.

• Overall trip distance: 5 miles each way
• Distance on greenway / protected bike lanes: 3.5 miles each way
• Distance on low-traffic roads: 1.0 miles each way
• Distance on sub-standard or non-existent bicycle infrastructure: up to 0.5 miles each way (the constantly-shifting work zone on the 4th Avenue bike lane)
• Pace: average around 10 miles per hour (faster on the greenways, slower on streets)
• Terrain: flat until the slope of Park Slope – steady climb from Third Avenue to Prospect Park West

Meet up at: the Citibike dock at 4th Avenue and 67th Street. Our destination is within the Citibike service footprint, so renting one of these bikes is an option.
